Penguin with Hot Chocolate Card (Crafty Creations Challenges #307)

http://craftycreationschallenges.blogspot.com/

Hi everyone :o)

My second post today. If you missed the first one, just scroll down or follow this link.

This Wednesday new challenge started at Crafty Creations Challenges.

Our theme for this fortnight is #307 - Paper Piecing, one of my favorite techniques. :o)

Our sponsor for this challenge is Beccy´s Place, with an awesome prize for our random winner: 3 digital images.
http://www.beccysplace.com/

For this challenge I made this Penguin with Hot Chocolate Card, using our sponsor's adorable digital image 'Finn's Hot Chocolate'. (Thank you Beccy!)

I used two images for paper piecing.

I printed two images on a watercoloring paper and left them dry for a while. As I use inkjet printer I always do this before coloring, to prevent ink smearing.

Then I colored pieces I needed in watercoloring technique using Tim Holt's Distress Inks, fine paint brush and water. I left colored pieces drying on air.

After drying, I fussy cut all pieces, colored their edges with black Stabilo Pen, softened all pieces with a stylus ball on a soft working mat and glued all pieces together.

For a background, I decided to keep it as simple as possible. I splattered front panel of the card with with acrylic paint mixed with water using larger paint brush.

After drying, I glued 3-D foams behind penguin image and placed him on the card. I thought this will be enough, but at this point my card was nice but not so cheery, so I embellished my card with arrow enamel stickers. :o)

Card dimensions are 107 mm x 139 mm (4 1/4" x 5 1/2").

  1. I LOVE this card Milka, it's fabulous! I really like the way you spattered the white paint in the background to simulate falling snow. I also like the way you coloured Finn and then popped him up for some extra dimension. You've done an excellent job on your one-layer card. Love it!
    Cheers,
    Beccy
