Hand Lettering #12: Personalized Birthday Magnet, Aquarius

Hello everyone!!! :o)

Today I want to share with you a hand lettered birthday magnet I made for my friend. :o)

Last year, during my personal challenge Celebrating 30 Days of Pisces 2017, I hand lettered various samples, this one also.

I cut 2" diameter circle base from a Canson XL Mixed Media Paper.

I stamped adorable Aquarius from Mama Elephant 'Cosmic Stars' stamp set on circle base, hand lettered word Aquarius in block letter handwriting style and friend's birthdays with Roman numerals.

I did same with the Virgo, for my friend's boyfriend, but I have no idea where I put it. It's not in an unfinished projects pile.

So, my hand lettered Aquarius sample finished in the pile of unfinished projects for almost a year. As my friend's birthday was approaching, it was right time to color it. :o)

I colored the Aquarius in watercolor technique using Distress Inks and left it dry on air.

I cut a circle out of a magnet sheet and glued it on the back of the colored circle. I pressed everything with a 32 cm x 32 cm, 1 cm thick glass plate and left it pressed through the night.

As a finishing touch, I coated Aquarius's outfit with Clear Wink of Stella. :o)

Dimensions: d = 51 mm (d = 2")

Education, Quotation Card no. #2 (CRAFT-alnica #193, August GDT)

Hi everyone! :o)

I was delighted to be asked to be a Guest Designer at CRAFT-alnica, Slovenian challenge blog, for month of AugustTwo weeks ago I shared my first GDT project and today I'm sharing my second project as GDT at CRAFT-alnica.

The challenge for this fortnight is #193 - Okvir / Frame. Use a frame on your project, make or decorate a frame.

I love hand drawn frames, so I decided to go with a hand drawn frameAnd this is my take on the challenge: Education, Quotation Card.

This is a decoration magnet (it has a magnetic sheet on the back). I made it for myself (actually for a refrigerator, as magnets can't stick on me LOL).

To make this one, I was inspired with a Quotation Card I made last year (find it here).

I was also inspired with colors from a photo below shared on Addicted to Stamps and More blog for the challenge #255 - Photo inspiration. :o)

And a photo shared on Cupcakes Inspirations for the challenge CIC419.
Original photo source: Potter Cakes

I quoted one of my favorite philosophers, Jiddu Krishnamurti. :o)

How I made my quotation card/magnet...

I cut a white watercolor paper panel and typed quotation on a typewriter and drew line frame with superfine permanent marker (0.4 mm).

Images are layered. I stamped pile of books from Jane's Doodles 'Read All About It' stamp set  directly on the panel and once more on a piece of watercolor paper. Then I colored books in watercolor technique using Distress Inks.

I colored a background in watercolor technique using Distress Ink Blueprint Sketch (DIBS). I added several layers of color and dried them between. When I was satisfied with the color, I splattered whole panel with water and DIBS.

After drying, I fussy cut colored books, colored edges with a black marker and glued them over stamped images on the panel. I added white highlights on books and the panel was finished.

The watercolor paper I used was thick and you could kind of see black color of the magnetic sheet through it. To solve this "problem", I cut a white cardstock base, same size as the watercolor paper, and glued colored panel on it. At the end I glued whole card on the magnetic sheet and my quotation card /magnet was finished.

Dimensions:  88 mm x 126 mm (3 1/2" x 5")

List of supplies:
  • Jane's Doodles 'Read All About It' Stamp Set
  • white watercolor paper
  • white cardstock paper

Motivation Magnet (Jane's Doodles DT Spotlight)

Hi everyone! :o)

Today is my turn to be on the spotlight over at Jane's Doodles and I made this Motivation Magnet.

I made this magnet for my friend and school colleague, as a gift for the school year end.

I love a magnet I created a couple months ago (find it here) and decided to CASE it. I went with same design, layout and created a sky scene around the sentiment/quote. As a central part of my magnets, I hand lettered the quotation of Croatian writer Ivana Brlić Mažuranić on the original, while on today's magnet, I used a beautiful Jane's Doodles big bold sentiment from 'You Got This' stamp set.

How I made the magnet...

I cut a 3" x 3" base from a Canson XL Mixed Media Paper.

I stamped the sentiment from Jane's Doodles 'You Got This' stamp set on the base and after couple minutes of ink drying, Sun and clouds from adorable Jane's Doodles 'Home Sweet Home' stamp set.

My favorite coloring technique is watercoloring. Like on my CASEd magnet, I step out of my comfort zone and loosely watercolored the sky scene. I struggled because I like everything colored neat, but less than a first time. LOL

I cut a magnet square with adhesive on one side, nearly same size as colored base and glued them together.

Lastly, I pressed the magnet with a 32 cm x 32 cm, 1 cm thick glass plate and left it pressed for an hour. When I glue together two different surfaces, like in this case, paper and magnet, I always press my projects.

Dimensions: 77 mm x 77 mm (3" x 3")

List of supplies:
  • Jane's Doodles 'You Got This' stamp set
  • Jane's Doodles 'Home Sweet Home' stamp set
  • Canson XL Mixed Media Paper, 300 g
  • Ranger Archival Ink (Jet Black)
  • Tim's Holtz Distress Inks
    • Mustard Seed
    • Spiced Marmalade
    • Tumbled Glass
    • Blueprint Sketch
  • magnet sheet, self adhesive
  • Fiskars High Precision Personal Paper Trimmer
  • acrylic block (102 mm x 102 mm)
  • Marabu rounded fine paint brush no. #0
  • Ranger Heat It Tool (for drying)

  • 32 cm x 32 cm x 1 cm glass plate
  • water

Hand Lettering #11: Personalized Birthday Magnet, Aries

Hi everyone!!! :o)

I hope you're enjoying your weekend. :o)

Today I want to share with you a hand lettered personalized birthday magnet I made for a friend crafter/blogger from Slovenia, Valentina. She is very creative and super friendly. :o)

How I made the magnet...

I cut a 2" diameter circle base from a Canson XL Mixed Media Paper.

I stamped an adorable Aries from Mama Elephant 'Cosmic Stars' stamp set on the circle base and hand lettered word Aries in block letter handwriting style.

I prepared various hand lettered samples during my personal challenge Celebrating 30 Days of Pisces 2017 to color during a 7th 30 Day Coloring Challenge by Kathy Racoosin of The Daily Marker. This one also, but I colored it after Kathy's challenge. I went with same design and lettering style and made samples for entire Zodiac, but I didn't colored them. I still have a lot of unfinished samples from my personal challenge, some I messed up and still didn't write a wrap up post.... Spring brings laziness here on my blog. LOL :o)

Back to the magnet.... I colored the Aries in watercolor technique, using Distress Inks. Then I heat embossed in clear a gorgeous Hero Arts 'Reverse Constellation' background. I watercolored constellations with Distress Ink Mustard Seed and left the circle dry on air.

I cut a circle out of a magnet sheet with large scissors and glued it together with the colored circle using universal UHU glue. I pressed the magnet with a 32 cm x 32 cm, 1 cm thick glass plate and left it pressed for an hour.

As a finishing touch, I coated Aries's horns and hoofs and constellations with Clear Wink of Stella.

Easter Decorations (LMMS Inspiration)

Hi everyone! :o)

It's Little Miss Muffet Stamps Inspiration Week and I made these Easter Decorations: Sheep Magnet and Easter Basket. :o)

I love my last week's card I made for LMMS challenge #160 and a color scheme, so I decided to make Easter Decorations using same image and in same color scheme.

For the magnet I used an adorable LMM's Forgotten Scraps 'Claribella' digital stampI printed the image on a watercolor paper and left it dry couple days to prevent ink smearing. It's enough to leave printed image drying couple hours or through the night. I didn't have time to color it, so it was drying couple days. :o)

I colored the image in watercolor technique using Distress Inks and aquarel colored pencils. After drying, I fussy cut the image, leaving thin white border around it. I traced the image on a magnet sheet, cut it out a bit smaller than the colored image and glued together the magnet and the image.
I pressed the magnet with a 32 cm x 32 cm, 1 cm thick glass plate and left it pressed for an hour. As a finishing touch, I added white highlights to the image.

Approximate Magnet dimensions: 85 mm x 110 mm

List of supplies magnet:
  • LMM's Forgotten Scraps 'Claribella' digital stamp
  • Koh-i-noor pop Aquarel Watercolor Paper, 250 gms
  • Tim Holtz's Distress Inks
    • Hickory Smoke
    • Black Soot
  • Koh-i-noor Hardtmuth Mondeluz aquarel colored pencils 3710
    • Light Green 25
    • Dark Green 26
  • Uniball Signo White

  • scissors
  • printer
  • Marabu fine rounded paint brush no. #0
  • eraser
  • water
  • paper towels
  • 32 cm x 32 cm x 1 cm glass plate

For the basket I used lovely gingham paper from Lili of the Valley 'Butterfly Kisses' Paper Pad and a white cardstock paper. You can find more details on how to make basket in my old post, here. This one is smaller. I made it from 126 mm x 126 mm square gingham paper.

After I assembled the basket, I attached a handle to it, using brads, so the handle can move. :o)

I decorated the basket with a scalloped border punched stripe, filled the basket with an artificial grass and my basket was finished. It's large enough for a chicken egg. :o)

Lovely crochet hearts in the basket are made by Jane Beljo of Plain Jane. Love them!!! :o)

Hand Lettering #5: Personalized Birthday Magnets, Pisces

Hello everyone!!! :o)

Today I want to share with you two hand lettered personalized birthday magnets I made.

First I made yellow one for my friend Danijela.

When my boyfriend saw it, he asked for a same magnet, but in blue, for his friend. :o)

How I made magnets...

I cut 2" diameter circle bases from a Canson XL Mixed Media Paper.

I stamped adorable Pisces from Mama Elephant 'Cosmic Stars' stamp set on circle bases, hand lettered word Pisces in block letter handwriting style and friends' birthdays with Roman numerals. I wrote them on different days, but I went with same lettering style on both so I'm sharing them together. :o)

I prepared various hand lettered samples during my personal challenge Celebrating 30 Days of Pisces 2017 to color during a 7th 30 Day Coloring Challenge by Kathy Racoosin of The Daily Marker. These two also.

I colored both circles in watercolor technique, using Distress Inks, and left them dry on air.

A friend gave me bunch of magnet sheets last year to make my own magnets. I cut magnet circles with large scissors and glued them together with colored circles with universal UHU glue. I pressed magnets with a 32 cm x 32 cm, 1 cm thick glass plate and left them pressed for an hour. At this point my magnets were finished.

I needed that something something as a final touch on the yellow one. I coated yellow Pisces with Clear Wink of Stella. Love the shimmer and my friend too!!! :o)
