Aloe Vera Card Set (CASology Week #368 mid-inspiration)

Hi everyone! :o)

Last Tuesday, May 12th, 2020, a new challenge started at CASologyThis fortnight's cue word is Plant. :o)

Due to some unexpected work situation and deadlines I had to meet, I didn't have the time to prepare my take on the challenge on time, so I'm bringing it today as mid-inspiration.There's still plenty of time to join the challenge, which ends on Monday, May 25th, 2020, 9 AM, CDT (UTC -5).

We also have a sponsor for this challenge: STAMPlorations. Find all details about the prize over at CASology blog.

And here is my take on the challenge: CAS (clean and simple), Aloe Vera Card Set. :o)

Design defined:
Paper piecing works well with CAS cards.

How I made my cards....

To make this card set I CASEd (copy and share everything) my own card that I made in October 2016 (here). I went with same design, layout, color scheme, used same products, but there are some differences. :o)

For this card set I used stamps from Jane's Doodles 'Cactus' stamp set and a patterned paper from Create a Smile 'Sending Sunshine' kit. :o)

I stamped images on 2 different design papers, fussy cut them out and traced their edges with black marker. I arranged them and glued directly on white top folded card bases. I glued a stripe of a design paper on each card base, same paper I used for pots. Then I stamped a sentiment directly on card bases, partly covering pots.

Then I highlighted letters, aloe veras and stripes on the striped design paper.

As a finishing touch, I embellished cards with grey enamel dots and my card set was finished. :o)

Card measurements: 95 mm x 127 mm (3 3/4" x 5")

Colorful Cacti Pot Card (AAA Cards Game #94 GDT)

Hi everyone! :o)

I was delighted to be asked to be a Guest Designer at AAA Cards for a Game #94, after I won 1st place in their Game #92 The Birthday Card Challenge. I love playing AAA Cards challenges, as their challenges are all about CAS (clean and simple) cards, my favorite card design. :o)

The Game #94 theme is one layer with a colored card base AAA Cards is pairing this challenge with Less is More.

Card design has to be CAS. Here is a CAS definition from AAA Cards blog:
Notice: there are various CAS cards definitions on various blogs.

And here is my take on the challenge: CAS (clean and simple), one layer,  Colorful Cacti Pot Card.

To make this card, I used GORGEOUS Jane's Doodles 'Cactus' stamp setSucculents and cactus are my favorite plants, so you can imagine how much I LOVE the set. :o)

When I received the stamp set (August 2016), I stamped all images on paper scraps and fussy cut them out. I made these to use them as a help to arrange scenes and as masks. I store these in a pouch with the stamp set.:o)

For a card base I used Kraft Paper, my favorite colored cardstock paper. I stamped the cactus/succulent pot directly on the card base using pre-made masks. Here and there I fixed some lines with black fine liner. I colored the stamped image with colored pencils. After coloring, I stamped a sentiment on the card base, overlapping the pot.

To add more interest to my card, I outlined the image and sentiment with white pencil, punched two opposite corners with a rounded corner paper puncher and my card was finished. :o)

Succulent Card Set (Jane's Doodles DT Spotlight)

Hi everyone! :o)

Today was my turn to be on the spotlight over at Jane's Doodles and I made this CAS (clean and simple), Succulent Card Set.

To make these cards, I used two Jane's Doodles stamp sets, 'Cactus' and 'Butterflies'.

First I made all succulents. I stamped succulents and pots on a watercolor paper, colored them in watercolor technique using Distress Inks, fussy cut them out and colored edges with black marker.

Then I stamped planted succulents on a white cardstock paper. I went with masking, although it was so not needed for what I was doing with my images... Well, practice is always good, right. :o) I fussy cut all images, leaving white border around them.

Here is a photo of all pieces...

When I had all pieces done, I glued them together and got that nice dimension that paper piecing gives. :o)

Next up were sentiment banners. I cut three stripes from a black cardstock paper, heat embossed sentiments in white, tied embroidery thread around banners (this is inspired by work of Yoonsun Hur) and my banners were finished.

Then I cut card bases and panels. I splattered panels with black Distress Ink and dried them with Heat It Craft Tool. I could leave them dry on air, but on the white cardstock paper I use, any water based medium or medium mixed with water gives better results when dried faster. In splattering case, drying faster gives prettier splatters.
Tip: Experiment and write down your results. Cut the paper you use on small pieces. 2" x 2" should be enough. Try different mediums, different techniques... on each paper piece. Write down a recipe. You can bind these together and make your unique paper/technique swatch. :o) It might get handy in the future. :o)

With all parts finished, I assembled cards together. I love dimension, so I glued foam on each part of the card. I used different thickness foams. Lastly, I glued another white panel inside each card to make back of cards thicker and more stable, because fronts are quite heavy and cards can't stand.

Here are photos of each card...
